One town, four counties. Which one you are in decides more of your tax bill than most people realise.
Braselton is unusual, and not in a small way. Its thirty-four square miles spread across Barrow, Gwinnett, Hall, and Jackson counties — which is why the town is served by four separate school systems, and why two houses on the same road can be assessed by two different counties at two different millage rates.
It is also the fastest-growing town in Georgia. A lot of people here bought recently, moved from somewhere else, and have never had to ask which county their driveway is in. Then a reassessment notice arrives from a county they were not expecting, or a business licence renewal shows up from the wrong office, and the question suddenly matters.

Some of what people worry about here does not matter at all. The rest matters more than they expect.
Georgia levies income tax at the state level. There is no county income tax and no city income tax, so your federal return and your Georgia return look the same whether your house sits on the Jackson County side or the Hall County side. If someone has told you that moving across the line changes your income tax, it does not. That part is settled.
Your property is assessed and billed by your county, not by the town. Rates are set county by county, and the school portion — usually the largest single piece of a Georgia property tax bill — depends on which of the four school systems your parcel falls into. Two comparable houses a few streets apart in Braselton can carry meaningfully different bills for exactly this reason.
With your county, not with the town, and each county runs its own process and its own deadline. This is the one that costs people real money: a homestead exemption filed late, or filed with the wrong county after a move within Braselton, is simply not applied for that year.
Your county's board of assessors. If you believe a reassessment is wrong, the appeal window is short and it is county-specific. Knowing which county to file with before the clock starts is not a formality.
In Georgia, cities and counties both levy occupational taxes. A business inside the Braselton town limits deals with the town; a business outside them deals with the county — and out here, which county is not obvious from the address. Some businesses owe on both sides. Before you renew anything, it is worth confirming which jurisdictions you actually sit in rather than assuming last year's paperwork was right.

Your property tax bill and parcel number will tell you, and so will the county named on your assessment notice. Subdivision boundaries and mailing addresses are not reliable guides — a Braselton postal address says nothing definitive about jurisdiction. Possibly quite a lot. If the move crossed a county line — which is easy to do here without leaving town — your homestead exemption needs filing with the new county, your assessment comes from a different office, and your vehicle registration and ad valorem move to a different tag office. Worth a review in the year you move rather than the year after.

The county-line questions do not stop at Braselton — Buford is split between Gwinnett and Hall, and plenty of addresses that read as a city are in unincorporated county.
